What about the missing people?

Family members of ten people who went missing in the last 75 days are worried as there have not been 'significant efforts on the law enforcement's part'.

Two among these ten people have returned, but the abductors still remain unidentified.

"Although the abduction scene is recorded on CCTV (closed circuit television) camera, the case has not been solved yet," said Kallol Hazra, nephew of the missing Aniruddha Roy, Belarus consul general to Bangladesh.

Jamal Uddin still seeks help from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police to find his son Ishrak Ahmed, 20, who went missing on 26 August from Dhanmondi.

"I don't see any progress," Jamal Uddin lamented.

"It is clearly evident that the RAB or police are not doing anything. Or may be they are being forced not to do anything. But, we don't have any alternative," said another relative.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, "The detective branch is working on it. We should wait for the result."

Police said investigations began as soon as the cases were filed. From their last location to phone conversation and Facebook activity to whereabouts of family and friends, everything is being scrutinised, they added.

Some have alleged that state parties are involved while a number of families already know the identities of the abductors.

Referring to a missing businessman from Gulshan, a police officer said his family had stopped their efforts to trace him, probably being forced to do so.

RAB legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan told Prothom Alo that they are acting as per the formal complaints.

When asked how they are moving forward regarding investigations, he denied commenting over the issue, saying, "It should not be shared to all."

He said some people have been abducted, but some are involved with fraudulent acts or militancy.

Mithun's family was denied to form a human chain

Newly formed Bangladesh Janata Party (BJP) chairman Mithun Chowdhury's family and followers could not form a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Sunday. Police took away their banner saying they did not have any approval from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

"The government is so afraid of Mithun that even a human chain is not allowed," alleged Mithun Chowdhury's wife Sumona Chowdhury.

Mithun Chowdhury and Ashiq Ghosh of BJP had allegedly been taken away by the law enforcement from Dhaka's Farashganj area on 27 October.
