Holey Artisan Bakery back to business

It's not as grand as before, yet the Holey Artisan Bakery has resumed business in a modest way in a new location.
On 10 January, they reopened on the second floor of Rangs Plaza on Gulshan North Avenue.
Police handed over the restaurant to the cafe authorities on 13 November, four and a half months into the militant attack on the restaurant on 1 July last year.
Sadat Mehedi, one of the owners of the restaurant, then said the restaurant would be shifted to a new location.
Shop in-charge of the bakery, Shahriar Ahmed, said, “Many old customers came just to greet us when we reopened. They always encouraged us to go for a fresh start.”
The business is going fine, he said.
Policemen and security guards were seen at the entrance.
The new Holey Artisan Bakery can accommodate 20 visitors but the old one could accommodate around 70 at a time. The restaurant just offers snacks and coffee at this moment.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner services are yet to be offered at the new location.
Anita George, a Canadian national who was buying bread at the bakery, said it is good that they started all over again.
The memories of the night of 1 July still haunts Shahriar.
“I could never erase that memory till the last day of my life,” he said.
Twenty hostages, including 17 foreign nationals, and two police officers, were killed by militants in the attack on 1 July. The attackers were also killed during a commando operation inside the cafe the next morning.
