Lightning kills siblings among 6 in 3 dists

Six people, including two siblings, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Noakhali, Barisal and Sirajganj districts from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, says news agency UNB.

In Noakhali, two siblings—M Sharif, 8, and Lipi Aktar, 10, children of Khorshed Alam and students of a local madrasah, were hit while working on a field adjacent to their house at Dakkhin Char Shullakia village in the Sadar upazila.

In Barisal, two fishermen - Marzan, 45, and Yusuf, 38, residents of Garuria village in Mehendiganj upazila, were killed after being struck by a lighting strike while netting fish on the Kalabadar River, said OC of Mehendiganj police station.

In Sirajganj, Ferdousi Khatun, 44, hailing from Pirarchar village in Belkuchi upazila, and Joynob Begum, 71, resident of Suja village in Ullapara upazila, were killed in separate lightning strikes on Wednesday night.

Ferdousi was hit while working on the yard of her own house, while septuagenarian Joynob was struck on his way to the hospital, said police.
