21 cops receive 'Police Women Award'

Twenty-one female police officers and two organisations have been given the Bangladesh Police Women Award-2017 in recognition of their services.

The awards were distributed at ceremony at PSC Convention Hall of Mirpur Police Staff College in the city on Thursday.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan was the chief guest at the event presided over by a deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mily Biswas, president of Bangladesh Police Women Network.

The awards were given in seven categories.

Lauding the contributions of the female police members to the police force, the minister said they are successfully working to protect lives and property of the general people, maintaining the law and order, and managing the traffic system.

Mentioning that policewomen account for 5 per cent of the force, he said it will be raised to 10 per cent gradually.

State minister for women and children affairs Meher Afroze Chumki and state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim, inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque were also present at the programme.
