Court accepts Banani rape charge sheet

A Dhaka court on Monday accepted the charge sheet submitted by police indicting all the five accused in a case filed over the rape of two private university students in a Banani hotel.

Stenographer of the Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression-2 told Prothom Alo that judge Shafiul Azam of the court accepted the charge sheet.

The accused are Shafat Ahmed, Nayem Ashraf, Sadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Earlier on 8 June, Ismat Ara, inspector of women support and investigation centre of Dhaka metropolitan police, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for raping the two university girls at the Raintree Dhaka hotel in Banani of the capital on March 28 last.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani police station on 6 May accusing the five people.
