A member of the investigation committee formed by the DMP headquarters said students of the seven government colleges affiliated to Dhaka University staged a protest on 20 July, demanding that examination routines be published..

Five of the on-duty constables became violent with the protesting students and at one stage, one of them fired tear gas at the students.

The inspectors were present at the venue, but they did not stop their subordinates, which has been termed 'unprofessional' by senior police officials.
