Khaleda asks party men to stand by flood victims

Online Desk | Update:

Khaleda ZiaVoicing deep concern over the deteriorating flood situation in the northern region, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday urged her party leaders and activists to immediately stand by the victims with relief materials, reports UNB.

In a statement, she said, “The country’s flood situation has taken a serious turn. People’s lives and livelihoods have got devastated as floodwater damaged homesteads, communication system and crops on vast areas on the banks of Teesta and some other rivers in the northern region. Flood-affected people have become hapless losing their house, crops and valuables.”

“I call upon BNP leaders and activists at levels, and well-off people to stand beside the flood victims immediately,” Khaleda added.

The BNP chief, now in London, alleged that the government has failed to take any effective step to tackle the flood situation. “There’s no visible emergency relief activity in the flood-hit areas. Any effective step is yet to be seen to shift the victims to higher and safer lands.”

She alleged that though the government is only giving ‘lip services’, no genuine services and efforts from it are still visible to deal with the fatal flood.

The BNP chairperson said the government is least bothered about public sufferings as it has been in power ignoring people.

She alleged that the government did not give attention to providing the victims with food and shelter after the recent flood in haor areas and hillsides in different areas that took many lives.
