4 RAB, 2 policemen among 15 injured in Lakshmipur clash

Fifteen people, including four members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and two policemen, were injured in a clash between locals and law enforcers over the arrest of a local UP member in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur  on Thursday afternoon, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Ramgati police station M Iqbal Hossain said four plainclothes RAB men went to the house of Farid Uddin, a member of Boyarchar union parishad, around 5:30pm to arrest him.
When the RAB personnel were taking Farid out of the house, his daughter started crying and calling locals.
Hearing her screams, neighbours appeared at the scene and engaged into a clash with the law enforcers when four RAB men—sub-inspector Mafizul Islam, Shakhawat Hossain, Shahin Alam and Shahidul Islam—and 10 locals sustained injuries.
The agitated locals later carried out an attack on Lakshmipur  camp of the elite force when two policemen received injuries.
They also vandalised two motorcycles of the law enforcers.
The injured RAB personnel and policemen were taken to Noakhali General Hospital while the injured locals to private hospitals.
On information, superintendent of police of the district Mahtab Uddin, Ramgati upazila nirbahi officer M Azgar Ali and other officials of the district administration visited the spot.
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to ward off further trouble, said OC Iqbal.
Commander of RAB-11 of Lakshmipur  Naresh Chakma said a team of RAB came under an attack when they went to Boyarchar to collect information.
