Paturia-Daulatdia ferry services resume

Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma river resumed after seven hours of disruption caused by dense fog on Thursday morning, reports news agency UNB.

Mahiuddin Rasel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha, said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the water vessels from 2:30am to 9:30am due to blurred visibility for dense fog.
Seven ferries-‘Khan Jahan Ali’, ‘Shah Makhdum’, ‘Kumari’, ‘Madhabilata’, ‘Hasnahena’, ‘Rajanigandha’ and ‘Shapla Shaluk’-lay motionless in the middle of the Padma.
Eight ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers on board lay anchored at Paturia and one ferry at Daulatdia.
Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles had to be kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing.
Ferry services on the important route resumed around 9:30am as fog started disappearing with the sunrise.
