Finance minister AMA Muhith has termed the statement of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) regarding the country's banking sector as rubbish, reports UNB.

"No, no, no...It's all rubbish. I have no comment," he told newsmen as his attention was drawn to the think-tank's observation following his meeting with the leaders of the Dhaka Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the finance ministry on Sunday.

The CPD on Saturday termed 2017 as the year of banking scams saying that a series of scams took place in the country in 2017 which is a result of the finance ministry's lack of monitoring.

The research body believed the scams have a very negative impact on the overall economy and apprehend the banking sector will not be relived from such crisis soon because of the government's inaction.

Criticising the CPD, the finance minister said they uttered not a single word when the biggest scam (Sonali Bank-Hall Mark) took place.

"Actually, CPD is busy undermining the achievement in the economic fields."

About the CPD's allegation that the finance ministry has big lapse in its monitoring, Muhith said, "I have no comment. They never recognised the economic achievements of Bangladesh".
