Accused persons on Saturday, according to the police, confessed that they beat up a man for protesting against their playing loud music at a house in the capital.

The victim, Nazmul Haque, 65, succumbed to his injuries and died on Friday on the way to hospital.

Accused Altaf Hossain, his son Sajjad, daughter Raian Hasnin and a relative Mirza Zahid were arrested on Friday.

Police said they would submit a charge-sheet soon, considering this a murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) assistant commissioner of Wari Zone Md Sohel Rana said they produced the four accused before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, seeking a 10-day remand for each of them. The court granted one day remand each of Sajjad and Zahid. The police official said they would be interrogated on Sunday.

"Altaf Hossain told his sons that he was admonished for playing music loudly. He angered his sons. They called Nazmul Haque and his son Nasimul Haque downstairs at 11:30 on Friday. After an exchange of words, Sajjad and others beat up Nasimul. When Nazmul Haque tried to protect his son, they beat up Nazmul too. Nazmul fell down," said the police official, quoting the accused who confessed their involvement.

The incident took place at 44 RK Mission Road of the capital.

Nazmul was beaten up by his neighbours for complaining that the music was too loud on the rooftop of their residential building on Thursday night.
