BCL men snatch ‘drug addicts’ from police

The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Islamic University (IU) unit snatched away three arrested drug addicts from the police on the campus on Sunday evening.

BCL is the student front of ruling Bangladesh Awami League.

Sub-inspector of IU police station Kamolesh Das said they arrested Mohaiminul Islam Limon, an outsider, Emtiaz, a student of Political Science department and Yusuf, a student of English department of the university, while they were taking drugs at Mofiz Lake near to the university.

The arrestees also allegedly sexually harassed the university's female students there, the police officer said.

IU proctor professor M Mahbubar Rahman, being informed the matter by the victims, rushed to the spot, caught the drug addicts and handed over them to police.

Half an hour later, a group of IU BCL activists led by its suspended activist Faisal Siddque Arafat, the supporters of the university BCL unit secretary Jewel Rana Halim, snatched away the drug addicts from police personnel as they were their followers.

Contacted, Faisal Siddique Arafat denied the allegation saying that they took the addicts from IU Police Station after giving deponent.

A case was lodged against Mohaiminul Islam Limon with the police station, Kamolesh added.
