Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia has convened a meeting of her party’s highest policymaking body of National Standing Committee, ostensibly to outline party course of action if she is convicted and landed in jail.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told Prothom Alo that the meeting will be held at her Gulshan office at 8:30pm this evening, Sunday.

Also a former prime minister, Khaleda is sitting with her party policymakers just four days before a trial court is set to deliver its verdict in a graft case filed against her.

Earlier on Saturday, Khaleda sat with her party’s key grassroots level leaders from across the country and gave necessary instructions if she is convicted in 8 February verdict and landed in jail. Over 500 members of party’s national executive committee joined the meeting at Hotel Le Meridian in the capital.

In her address to the executive members, the BNP chairperson called on her party men to remain united even during her absence and to face the situation peacefully.
