Ferry services on two Padma routes resume after 9-hr

The ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari and Daulatdia-Paturia routes in the Padma river resumed after nine hours of disruption caused by dense fog on Tuesday, reports UNB.

On Daulatdia-Paturia route, the ferry services were suspended around 1:30am to avoid accident, said Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, an AGM of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha.

After midnight the density of fog started to rise gradually stranding five ferries on the middle of the river, he said.

Meanwhile, on Shimulia-Kathalbari route, the ferry services were also suspended around 1:30am leaving at least six ferries stranded, said assistant general manager of BIWTC Shah Newaz Khaled at Shimulia.

More them 500 vehicles are waiting on both sides to cross the river, Khaled said.

The ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari and Daulatdia-Paturia routes resumed at 10:30am as the fog disappeared.
