BNP is expecting to get the certified copy of the verdict that sentenced its chairperson Khaleda Zia to five years’ imprisonment in a graft case on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.

Sanaullah Mia, counsel of the BNP chief, in the morning said they will get the copy of the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case around 4:00pm.

“If we get the certified copy of the verdict today, we will file appeal tomorrow [Thursday],” said the lawyer.

Besides, Pro-BNP lawyers, led by senior joint secretary of BNP Ainjibi Forum Sanaullah Mia, started observing a token hunger strike in the morning demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

As part of BNP’s countrywide six-hour hunger strike, the programme began around 11:30am at metropolitan judge court premises.

Earlier on 8 February, a special court here convicted former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.

On the same day, BNP sought a certified copy of the verdict to file an appeal.
