Farzana Islam made JU VC again

Professor Farzana Islam has been reappointed for the second time as the vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for four years, reports UNB.

The education ministry issued a gazette on Sunday in this regard.

It said that the chancellor of the university, president Abdul Hamid appointed her for four years according to Jahangirnagar University 1973 act under the section 11(1).

JU VC Farzana Islam told UNB that president Abdul Hamid also the chancellor of JU and education minister Nurul Islam Nahid congratulated her over phone.

On 2 March 2014, professor Farzana was made the first female vice chancellor of the country, and now she is reappointed 17 days prior to the expiry of her tenure.

Farzana was born in Bhedorganj upazila of Shariatpur district in 1957, did her post-graduation in sociology from Dhaka University in 1980 and joined Chittagong University as a lecturer of the sociology department in 1982.

In 1986, she joined the anthropology department of Jahangirnagar University.
