An Awami Swechchhasebak League leader of Shariatpur has allegedly circulated obscene pictures and video clips of a college girl on the social media.

The leader is Ashraful Islam aka Mithun Madbar, literature and cultural affairs secretary of Swechchhasebak League's Jajiraupazila unit. He is a resident of a village of Joynagar union in the upazila.

Swechchhasebak League is an associate organisation of ruling Awami League.

The college girl's family alleged that Mithun raped the girl, after forming a relationship with her around two years ago.

He then took several photos and video clips of the girl featuring the objectionable scene, said the victim's family members.

Mithun threatened he would circulate the photos and videos and rape her if she didn’t have relations with him.

Being afraid, the girl's family admitted her into a college in Dhaka city. But Mithun started harassing her there as well, according to the family.

The victim's family also said that the girl got married on 25 November.

''She went to her village home in Jajira on 27 November with her husband. Mithun, then, handed over the photos and videos to her husband. Their marriage is now at stake,'' said one of her family members.

Locals said that the objectionable photos and videos of the girl were circulated on a Facebook account of ‘Joynagar Union Chhatra League' on 15 February. The photos and videos have so far surfaced on around 50 Facebook accounts till Monday, they added.

Bangladesh Chhatra League's Jajira upazila unit's vice president Bipul Kazi told Prothom Alo that he does not know who uses such a Facebook ID that circulated the objectionable photos and videos.

Swechchhasebak League's Shariatpur district committee's general secretary Tajul Islam Sarkar said, ''Mithun has been suspended from the party for being involved with immoral activities.''

Mithun could not be found when contacted. His family members said that he had been out of the area for five to six days. His father said, ''We've tried to counsel him, but in vain.''

Officer-in-charge of Jajira police station, Enamul Haque said, ''I have come to know about the incident. But, no one filed a written complaint with the police station.''

Recently, police arrested a BCL leader for raping six women and circulating the rape videos online in Shariatpur.
