The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will bring out a procession with black flags in the capital on next Saturday, protesting against the authorities’ denial of a public rally planned for Thursday.

BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the fresh programme at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters, as part of its ongoing demonstration against the incarceration of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The party earlier announced that it would hold a public rally in the capital on Thursday demanding unconditional release of its chairperson Khaleda.

The fifth special judge’s court of Akhtaruzzaman on 8 February convicted Khaleda in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, sentencing her to five years in jail.

The authorities have kept her in the abandoned central jail at the Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
