97 BNP leaders, activists sent to jail

A Jessore court on Tuesday sent 97 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations to jail in different cases filed against them, reports UNB.

Senior district and session judge of Jessore Aminul Islam passed the order after they surrounded to the court, said Rafiqul Islam Pitu, public prosecutor (PP) of the court.

There are nine cases in nine police stations against them, said the PP. “They were granted interim bail for six weeks by the High Court that was ended on Tuesday,” he added.

The BNP men including president of Sharsha upazila unit Khairuzzaman Madhu, Chaugachha upazila unit president Jahurul Islam, district unit executive member Moshiar Rahman Moshi, Abhaynagar upazila unit general secretary Golam Haider Dablu, Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal (JCD) president Ehsanul Haque Munna, JCD general secretary Tamal Ahmed, district unit JCD president Nazmul Hasan Babul and Faruk Hossaian, president of JCD Jessore town unit were sent to Jessore Central Jail in fabricated cases as part of the government’s repression on BNP men, said Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary of Jessore district unit of BNP.

“We demand immediate release of the BNP men,” he added.
