Share prices fall in early trading

Trading on the country's both bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange - saw a downward trend in the early hours on Thursday as cautious investors were on selling mood.

Within first one and half hour of the trading, DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, went down by 35.18 points or 0.63 per cent to 5,536.87 points at 11:53 am.

The two other indices also edged lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also lost 9.99 points or 0.47 per cent to reach at 2,074.99 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also shed 4.92 points or 0.37 per cent to stand at 1,317.82 points.

Turnover, an important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 929.25 million riding on Summit Power and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh.

Of the issues traded till then, 58 advanced, 218 declined, and 31 remained unchanged.

Summit Power Limited was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 36.30 million changing hands till then followed by Lafarge Holcim Bangladesh, United Power Generation & Distribution Company and Square Pharmaceutical.

The port city bourse - Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - also witnessed a downward trend in the early hours with its Selective Category Index losing 65.19 points to 10,345.51 also at 11:53am.

Of the issues traded till then, 20 gained, 118 declined and 21 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 32.75 million.
