Pro-BNP panel wins Supreme Court bar polls

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel backed by the BNP-Jamaat alliance has won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections defeating the ruling Awami League-led alliance Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parisad, reports News Agency UNB.

According to the results, BNP vice chairman advocate Joynul Abedin from Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel was elected SCBA president while barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon general secretary of the bar association outplaying their rivals.

Convener of SCBA election conducting committee AY Mashiuzzaman announced the results around 8:00am.

Of the total 14 posts, Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Forum bagged 10 while four posts, including one of vice president, went to Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parisad.

The two-day election to the Supreme Court Bar Association ended on Thursday.
