2 Rohingyas jailed for 10 years for smuggling

A Cox’s Bazar court on Tuesday awarded two Rohingya youths 10 year jail terms on charges of smuggling yaba into Cox’s Bazar from Myanmar in 2015.

Joint district and session’s judge Begum Salma Khatun handed down the verdict, reports UNB.

The court also fined then Tk 3,000 each, in default, to suffer three more months in jail. The convicts are Amanulla, son of Mohammad Sultan hailing from Dailpara area in Mangdu state of the country, and Yusup, son of Eunus of the same area.

Quoting the proceedings, public prosecutor Adv Abul Hashem said members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained Amanullah and Yusup while they were trying to cross the border along with contraband tablets, and handed them over to Teknaf police station.

Later, BGB filed a case with the police station accusing them.
