Chief engineer caught red-handed with bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday arrested the chief engineer of shipping department SM Nazmul Haque red-handed while taking bribe.

Nazmul demanded Tk 150,000 from a shipping company for providing no objection certificate and approving the design of its vessel, said an ACC press release.

Later, the company informed the ACC about it and as per a deal, the company agreed to provide Tk 500,000.

An ACC team, led by its director of Dhaka division Nasim Anwar, arrested Nazmul from a restaurant in Segunbagicha area while taking the amount around 5:45pm.

A case was filed against him.
