The country’s main opposition political party, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has hoped that there will be a change of regime through elections in the Bangla new year beginning from today, Saturday.

Addressing a function organised at its Naya Paltan central office to greet Bangla new year, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain voiced the hope saying, “Let the new year be the year of victory for truth against falsehood and let the new year be the year of democracy removing the scars of autocracy.

“Let the new year be the year of people’s victory. Let the new year be the year of establishing people’s government under the leadership of Khaleda Zia. This is our hope,” said Mosharraf.

He said, “Let’s take a vow on the first day of new year that we will establish a people’s government, forcing the [current] government to dissolve parliament and install a non-party poll-time government after freeing the country-leader [Khaleda] from jail.”

The BNP regretted that their leader (Khaleda) is in jail when they are celebrating Bangla new year whereas she used to adorn the chair of chief guest in every such programmes in the past.

“She [Khaleda] has been kept imprisoned in a false case,” alleged Mosharraf.

Another standing committee member of the party Mirza Abbas alleged that the country is in the clutch of an evil force.

“The country is now in the grip of an evil force. I don’t know when good days will arrive. We will have to unitedly forge a war against the evil force to bring good days for all. Otherwise, nothing will happen,” he noted.
