Cop goes missing after jumping into river to detain accused

A police constable went missing as he jumped into Kaliganga river for arresting a convicted accused at Joynagar village in Sadar upazila in Manikganj on Thursday afternoon, reports.

Rakibuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said a team of police led by sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam conducted a drive in Joynagar area to arrest Salam, a convicted accused in a drug case around 5:00pm.

Accused Salam jumped into the river in a bid to escape from the scene.

Following Salam, Shaheen also jumped into the river and went missing.

However, Salam managed to come out and went into hiding, but the constable remained missing, the OC said.
