Bangladesh Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday directed the All European Awami League (AEAL) leaders to give a befitting reply to what she said BNP-Jamaat propaganda against the country and government abroad, reports BSS.

"The BNP-Jamaat nexus, who amassed huge amount of money through illegal ways, is now carrying out false propaganda against the country and the government abroad through various means. So, you'll have to give a befitting reply to it," she said when a delegation of the AEAL leaders called on her at her hotel suite here this morning in London, UK.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is the main opposition political party led by Hasina’s arch enemy Khaleda Zia who landed in jail in last February and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a longstanding ally of BNP.

AEAL president Anil Das Gupta and general secretary MA Gani led the delegation.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said the European Awami League leaders apprised the prime minister of different aspects of the organisation.

The press secretary said the prime minister also gave directives to the leaders to further strengthen the organisation and maintain unity among them.

Sheikh Hasina recalled about how the AL was formed in Europe amid adverse situation after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975.

In this connection, she asked the present leadership of the European Awami League to properly evaluate those veteran leaders, who played a crucial role in organising Awami League in Europe at that time.

"The Awami League will have to move ahead through combined coordination of its young and veteran leaders," she commented.

Hasina claimed that she personally tolerated much pain and sacrificed a lot only for the cause of the country's development.
