Rangamati upazila chairman shot dead

The chairman of Rangamati’s Naniarchar upazila was shot dead by some miscreants while he was going to his office on Thursday.

The deceased is Shaktiman Chakma, also vice president of Chakma Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma), a faction of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), police confirmed Prothom Alo.

Shaktiman was going to his office from his residence on a motorcycle when he was shot by two miscreants around 11:00am.

When he fell off the motorcycle, the killers shot him again from point blank and fled the scene.

The UP chairman was rushed to the upazila health complex where physician declared him dead on arrival.

Security has been beefed up in the area to thwart any untoward situation.
