5 shot dead on way to Shaktiman funeral

Five people were shot dead while three others sustained bullet wounds on Friday when unknown miscreants opened fire on people going to attend the funeral of Rangamati’s Naniarchar upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma.

The deceased are Tapan Jyoti Chakma, convener of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), Sujan Chakma, Pranab Chakma, Setu Chakma and microbus driver Md Sajib.

The victims were going from Khagrachhari to Naniarchar to attend the funeral in a microbus.

Three of the deceased died on the spot while two more succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital, police said. 

Unidentified people had shot Shaktiman dead on Thursday while he was on his way to the office.

Shaktiman was also the vice president of Chakma Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma), a faction of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS).
