Hartal in Khagrachhari Sunday protesting against attack

The Greater Parbatya Chhatra Parishad and Parbatya Odhikar Forum on Saturday called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Khagrachhari for Sunday protesting the killing of five persons including a microbus driver in the Friday's gun attack, reports UNB.

The leaders and activists of the two groups also staged demonstrations protesting the gun attack.

The hartal was announced from their protest rally.

They also demanded the release of three people who were abducted from Khagrachhari on 16 April.

Meanwhile, the funeral programmes of Tapan Jyoti Chakma, chief of United People's Democratic Front (Ganotantrik) and Pronok Chakma alias Tanay, 23, a member of Jubo Samity, were held in Tetultola of Khagrachhari this morning instead of their home in Rangmati over security issue and the funeral programmes of Sujon Chakma and Setu Chakma were held at Mohalchhari.

Besides, the body of driver Sajib was taken to his village home in Barisal.

Five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Naniarchar upazila parishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in the upazila on Friday.

They came under the attack while going to attend the funeral programme of the slain upazila parishad chairman at his Kukurmara family crematory in the upazila from Khagrachhari.

Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in front of the upazila parishad complex on Thursday.
