National Committee to Protect Oil Gas Mineral Resources Power and Ports will stage demonstrations on Monday across the country in protest against the government's move to raise gas prices and also alleged corruption in the country's energy sector, reports UNB.

National Committee's member secretary professor Anu Mohammad announced the programme at a press conference at Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium in the city on Saturday.

Other leaders of the committee including Ruhin Hossain Prince were also present on the occasion.

The National Committee also placed four point demands at the press conference which include withdrawal of power and energy related immunity law, stopping import of LNG and instead taking measures for oil-gas exploration by state-owned companies, removing all anti-environment industrial units including Rampal power plant from Sundarbans area, and cancelling of setting up high-cost power plants.

Anu Mohammad said the National Committee will gradually intensify their movement by observing more action programmes in the coming days to compel the government to accept their demands.

He alleged that the government has been implementing wrong policies in power and energy sector only to give benefit to certain local and foreign vested groups.

He, however, admitted some left leaning parties who were involved in their movement against the government's anti-national activities have withdrawn themselves from their movement because of their political calculation ahead of national election. But he did not disclose the name of the parties.
