BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday filed two more petitions with the High Court seeking bail in two separate cases.

One of the cases was filed by Bangladesh Jananetri Parisad president AB Siddik on 3 November 2016 against Khaleda Zia for distorting history of liberation war, demeaning the national flag and the country’s map. Following the defamation suit, an arrest warrant was issued on 12 November in 2017, reports UNB.

Another case was filed by journalist Gazi Jahirul Islam on 30 August 2016 accusing Khaleda of observing birthday on 15 August on false information. On 17 November 2016, an arrest warrant also issued against her.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer filed the petitions with the HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Sahidul Karim.

On behalf of the former prime minister, lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain sought permission while lawyers Kaiser Kamal and Masud Rana accompanied him.

The hearing might be held on Wednesday, said Masud Rana after filing the pleas.

On Sunday last, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia filed three separate petitions with the HC seeking bail in three cases filed in Cumilla on charge of vandalising vehicles on 25 January in 2015 and killing seven persons and injuring 25-26 persons by setting fire on a passenger bus in an area of Chauddagram on 2 February 2015 and a Narail court on 24 September 2015, for making a statement about the number of freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
