Teen who jumps off building to escape police torture dies

A teenage boy who jumped off Sadar model police station building in Brahmanbaria after his arrest on Monday night died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital early Thursday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rasel Miah, 19, son of Robi Miah of Madhyapara area of the district town. He was a security guard of ATM booth of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited's Brahmanbaria branch.

Victim's family alleged that the police picked Rasel from his house and tortured him brutally and finally pushed him from the police station's roof.

Additional police superintendent, Iqbal Hossain, denied the allegation and said they had detained a number of suspects including Rasel for interrogation on Monday.

On 21 May, police arrested Rasel in a case filed over the burglary at clothes store 'Swapnalok Fashion House' at City Centre of the town.

He, however, jumped off the rooftop of the police station building at night, leaving him critically injured.

The teenager was first taken to Sadar Hospital and then sent to the DMCH following deterioration of his condition where he died in the early hours.
