Quader assures no tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway around Eid vacation

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday assured that no tailback will be created on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway during this Eid-ul-Fitr.

Talking to the reporters after examining the overall condition of Nabinagar-Chandra highway at Ashulia in the noon the minister came up with the remark.

Also the general secretary of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, Quader said, "There will be no traffic congestions on the Dhaka-Tangail highway as the conditions of roads are much better ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr this year."

"The construction work of an elevated expressway from Abdullahpur to Ashulia Bypile DEPZ will start from October which is a Tk 850 crore project", he said.

"Legal steps will be taken if anyone found involved with extortion on the highways and high security measures will be taken on different highways including the Dhaka-Aricha highways centering the Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.

Meanwhile, about the recent anti-drug drives, Obaidul said "No drug peddlers will be speared, no matter whatever political party they belong to. Even Abdur Rahman Bodi, the lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf), will not be speared if proof of drug peddling is found against him."

"The government has taken a zero tolerance policy against drug dealers. The drug paddlers have been shortlisted, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been probing the matter", he said.
