Sonali Bank officer jailed for graft

A Faridpur court on Sunday sentenced a Sonali Bank officer to four years’ imprisonment in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for embezzling Tk 790,000, reports UNB.

The court also fined the convict, Md Zakir Hossain of Soterorosi village in Sadar upazila, the full amount which was misappropriated and in case of failure, he will have to suffer six more months in jail.

Special Judge Court judge Md Motiar Rahman passed the verdict with Zakir standing in the dock.

According to the prosecution, Zakir Hossain who was a cashier of local branch of Sonali Bank, embezzled Tk 790,000 from the bank in 2016.

Later, the ACC filed a case over the incident.
