Two more suspected drug traders were killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with detectives in Kalibari Lane area of Mymensingh early Tuesday.

The deceased are Rony Mia, 30, son of Mamun Mia of Krishtopur area and Anwar Hossain alias Anar, 38, son of Siraj Ali of Bashbari Colony.

Being informed that a gang of drug traders gathered in an abandoned house to share drug money, a team of detectives conducted a drive there, said Ashiku Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of the district police.

Sensing the presence of detectives, the gang fired gunshots at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate in ‘self-defence’ which led to the gun battle, the OC said.

After the gunfight, law enforcers found two drug traders as bullet-hit.

Later, they were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

Two policemen were injured during the incident, the OC added.

Police also recovered 1750 piece of yaba tablets, three round bullet shells and a foreign pistol from the spot.
