UNHCR urged for Rohingya repatriation

Bangladesh has requested UNHCR to continue its engagement with the Myanmar government towards creating conducive environment in the Rakhine state for ensuring return of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland, reports UNB. 

State minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam made the request during his meeting with regional representative of UNHCR James Lynch held in parliament on Tuesday.
The UNHCR representative briefed the minister about the recently signed tripartite MoU by Myanmar with UNHCR and UNDP.
This MoU provides a framework for further cooperation between Myanmar and the UN (UNHCR and UNDP) towards creating conditions/facilities for the returnee Rohingyas in Myanmar including assisting their resettlement and reintegration.
Bangladesh has already engaged UNHCR in the repatriation by signing two MoUs of cooperation.
