8 killed in road crashes across country

At least eight people, including a school teacher, were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram, Sylhet and Chandpur districts on Friday, reports UNB.

In Chattogram, three people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses in Sahgodi Nimtoli area of Patiya upazila around 11:00am.

The deceased are Hridoy Ranjan Das, 70, a teacher of Chiringa area of Cox's Bazar, his wife Basanti Das, 55, and their son-in-law, Shibakar Das, 40.

Hridoy and Basanti died on the spot and Shibakar sustained severe injuries. Locals rushed him to Chittagong Medical Collage Hospital (CMCH) where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Mizanur Rahman, in-charge of Patiya highway police outpost, confirmed about the incident saying that the injured were taken to CMCH for treatment.

In another road crash, two people -- Kiron Bala Das, 60, and Lutfur Rahman, 30 -- died when a bus hit a roadside tree after its driver lost control over the steering on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Shuklal Hat area of Barabkunda around at 11:45am.

An unidentified woman was killed after being hit by a human-hauler while crossing Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Madambibir Hat in Sitakunda upzila around 5:00pm.

In Sylhet, an elderly woman died after being slipped off a human-hauler while getting down from it in the afternoon.

The deceased is Razia Begum, 55, wife of a certain Jamsed Ali of Barochatul village of the upazila.

Locals rushed her to the upazila health complex where the duty doctors declared her dead.

In Chandpur, hawker Saleh Ahmed, 40, son of one Abdul Bashar Miaji of Tamta area in Shahrasti upazila, died after falling off a rickshaw when a private car hit it around 6:30pm.

Police seized the car but its driver managed to flee the scene, said Sub-inspector Kutubuddin of Shahrasti police station.
