Rohingya leader hacked to death

A Rohingya leader was hacked to death at Balukhali camp in Cox’s Bazar allegedly by rivals on Monday night, reports UNB.

On information, a police team recovered the wounded body of Md Arifullah, 36, at around 8:30pm. There were many deep wounds in different parts of the body, said Md Abul Khayar, officer-in-charge of Ukhia police station.

Arifullah was a graduate from University of Yangon. He spoke English very well. He used to describe the misery of Rohingya to different ministers, presidents and foreign officials who came to visit them in the camp, said Ukhia upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Nikaruzzaman.

An opponent group had attacked Arifullah earlier on 19 October last year. He managed to escape at the time while his younger brother Muhibullah sustained knife injuries.

The mystery behind the killing is being investigated, the OC added.
