Driver killed as bus overturns in Madaripur

One man was killed and at least 10 others injured as an Eagle Paribahan bus hit a tree and overturned on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Pantapara of Kalkini upazila, Madaripur, on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was the driver of the bus Rabiul Islam, 35, son of Hashem Bepari of Charbasanti of the upazila.

The Barishal bound bus lost control, hit a tree and turned turtle beside the highway in Pantapara at around 4:30am leaving the driver dead on the spot, said the police and local people.

The injured were rushed to Madaripur Sadar Hospital immediately while Rabiul’s body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Vehicle movement on the highway stopped for a while after the accident. It resumed after sometime, said the sub-inspector of Bhanga highway police station.
