Woman, minor boy drown in Sylhet

A woman and a minor boy drowned in two separate drowning incidents in Kanaighat and Jakiganj upazilas of Sylhet on Tuesday.

The deceased are Hosne Ara, 30, daughter of Mati Mia from Dakkhin Thakurmati village in Kanaighat upazila and Mahir Ahmed, 7, son of Nurul Islam from Mansurpur village of Jakiganj upazila, says UNB.
Locals said Hosne Ara, a widow, drowned in the flood waters that have immersed a large part of the region, while trying to rescue her son from drowning around 3:00pm. Her bid to save her child did not end in vain though, as she embraced death even as she gave her child another chance at life.
Later, family members recovered her floating body from a roadside in the same village around 4:00pm.
In another incident in Jakiganj, the minor boy Mahir drowned as he got in the way of fast-flowing flood water on the road while he was going to his maternal grandfather's house.
Later, members of Jakiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense managed to recover his body in the dead of night after six hours of frantic searching.
