A total of 29 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed in Gazipur city ahead of the city corporation elections.

The border guards were deployed at different parts of the city on Sunday morning to avert any untoward incident, said BGB’s public relations officer Mohsin Reza.

The platoons will remain in duty till 27 June, he added.

Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election will be held on Tuesday and the candidates can continue their campaigning till midnight on Sunday.

A total of 1.1 million voters are expected to cast their votes in the upcoming polls of 57 general ward councillors and 19 reserve women seats, reports UNB.

Earlier, the GCC polls were scheduled to be held on 15 May, but the High Court had stayed it.

Later, the Appellate Division reviewed the High Court order and asked the Election Commission to hold the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections within 28 June.
