Villagers on Friday morning killed at least 54 baby cobras and destroyed 52 eggs from a kitchen in Shiali village in Dhunat upazila in Bogura, reports UNB.

Farman Ali, a farmer and owner of the house, said people killed the cobras including two big-one and destroyed its den including 52 eggs from a firewood heap in the kitchen.

At first, his sister Fensi Khatun noticed a mammoth king cobra in the kitchen in the morning while she was cooking.

However, the snake managed to hide in a hole after being noticed.

Later, she started to scream and called neighbours. Farman Ali along with his neighbours started digging the hole.

As they did, some 54 king cobras started to come out one after another, which they killed by beating with sticks on the spot.

They also recovered a total of 52 eggs and destroyed those, he added.

Upazila livestock officer Nur-e-Alam Siddique said snakes usually take shelter in high place during the monsoon and sometimes come to locality as forests are decreasing.

"We should not kill the cobras but to call the snake charmer and handed those over to the livestock department," he added.

Earlier in two incidents, more than 500 cobras were killed at a primary school office in the upazila.

Meanwhile, villagers were passing time in great fear as they could not manage to kill the king cobra.
