A Dhaka court on Saturday sent three leaders of the quota reform movement to jail after the completion of two days of police remand.

They are Jashimuddin, 21, Mashiur Rahman, 18, and Faruk Hossain - three joint-conveners of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, the platform under which general students from across the country are waging a sturdy campaign seeking reform of quota system in the public services.

Three leaders of the quota movement were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 3:00pm on Saturday.

The lawyer of the accused, Rezaul Islam, filed bail petition for the three student leaders, but the court rejected the bail for the duo and ordered to send them to jail, saying it would give its decision on Faruk Hossain tomorrow, Sunday.

The police have shown them arrested on 3 July, after they ‘went missing’.
