Jamaat expels its central leader Monju

In the wake of resignation of a party senior leader, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled its Majlis-e-Shura member Mojibur Rahman Monju, reports UNB.

In a post on his Facebook account, Monju on Saturday said a party leader, on behalf of its ameer Maqbul Ahmed, informed him around 7:30pm on Friday that his membership of the party has been cancelled.

A Jamaat assistant secretary general told UNB that Monju was expelled from the party for violating its discipline and engaging in anti-party activities.

Monju, a former president of Jamaat's student body Islami Chhatra Shibir, said he has long been expressing alternative views with the party senior leaders over some issues. "I often verbally and in written informed the responsible leaders about my alternative opinions and suggestions."

"I had clear opinions on Jamaat's reform and its role in 1971 the liberation war of the country. My observations about Jamaat's bleak future without its reform embarrassed the party leaders," he mentioned.

Monju said he had a meeting with three party leaders on 13 February when he defended himself that he did not violate the party discipline or its charter by expressing his different opinions.

At the meeting, he also placed a written statement addressing the Jamaat ameer requesting him to take steps for carrying out a neutral investigation into the allegation against him that he was plotting to float a new party splitting Jamaat.

"Without any investigation, I was informed last night (Friday night) that my party membership was revoked. Though I was seriously shocked, I accepted the decision."

On Friday, Jamaat assistant secretary general Abdur Razzaq sent his resignation letter from the UK to the party ameer as he said the party failed to apologise for its anti-liberation war role in 1971 and reform the organistion based on reality.
