A five-year-old boy died of dengue at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Friday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased is Jarif Mia, son of Md Arif Mia of Sikarikanda area of the Sadar Upazila.
MMCH Deputy Director Dr Lakshmi Narayan Majumder said Jarif had been diagnosed with dengue and was being treated at Gazipur Sadar Hospital.
Doctors there recommended shifting him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. “But his parents admitted him to MMCH around 5pm,” Majumder said. “He died about an hour later.”
Currently, 110 dengue patients are being treated at MMCH.
According to the government, 61,038 dengue patients were hospitalised, while 54,956 of them were discharged after treatment since January this year.
The government has so far confirmed the deaths of 47 people but unofficial estimates suggest a higher death toll.
