Case filed over Avijit killing

A case was filed over the killing of blogger Avijit Roy with Shahbagh police station on Friday morning.

Prof Ajay Roy, father of the deceased and former teacher of Dhaka University, filed the case against some unnamed people with the police station in the morning.

Shahbag police officer in-charge Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident.

Blogger and writer Avijit Roy was hacked to death in front of the TSC at Dhaka University on Thursday night.

A witness said Avijit and his wife, Rafida Ahmed, were severely hacked beside Suhrawardy Udyan by unknown miscreants around 9:15pm.

They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at 10:30pm. His critically injured wife is under treatment at the hospital.

Avijit, son of educationist Ajoy Roy, is the founder of Mukto-Mona blog. He wrote about ten books.

The US expatriate couple came to the country a few days ago.

None was arrested yet in connection with the incident.
