The Detective Branch of police on Tuesday arrested a senior reporter of private television channel Ekushey Television Ltd. (ETV) under Pornography Control Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police joint commissioner (mass media and public relations) Masudur Rahman said Kanak was arrested in the city's Shahbagh area around 2:00pm following a confession statement of ETV chairman Abdus Salam, who was earlier arrested in the same case.
On 6 January, the police arrested Abdus Salam in a pornography case filed against him with the cantonment police station on 26 November by a woman.
However, a combined bench of the High Court division issued his interim bail on 10 January. On 26 February, the court maintained his bail again.
The plaintiff mentioned four people in her case. They are her adopted brother Zahirul Islam, her ex-husband Shah Jalal, Shah Jalal’s brother-in-law Zakir Hossain and ETV journalist Md Elias.
