Russia assures Bangladesh of duty-free RMG market access

Russia has assured Bangladesh to provide duty-free and quota-free market access for Ready Made Garments (RMG) products soon, reports UNB.

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said this on Sunday after having a discussion with a seven-member visiting Russian delegation at commerce ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat. Russia's deputy minister of agriculture, Levin Segey Lvovich, led the delegation.

Tofail said according to the discussion of World Tread Centre (WTO) Bangladesh gets duty-free and quota-free market access to Russia on 71 products but RMG still not getting the facility due to some complications.

To remove the complications, Bangladesh signed an agreement with Eurasian Economic Commission to be its member, he said.

He added that shortly BD will become its member and then RMG will get the duty-free and quota-free market access to the country.

Russia wants to be the organiser of next World Expo in 2025 so that they asked the support of Bangladesh as it is one of members of World Expo who will elect the organiser by voting.

While the delegates were asking the support, Tofail raised the issue about RMG's duty-free and quota-free market access before them and they assured him about quick access.
