'Govt may lift VAT on internet use'

Finance minister AMA Muhith on Thursday said he will consider the withdrawal of existing VAT on internet usage in the next budget, reports UNB.

"I promise to seriously consider the VAT on internet usage in the upcoming budget," he said in response to ICT minister Mustafa Jabbar.

The finance minister inaugurated the BASIS SoftExpo 2018 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

At present the VAT on internet usage is 15 per cent.

"Last year as BASIS president I requested for the withdrawal of VAT on internet usage and now as the ICT minister I request the finance minister to consider the amount of VAT," said minister Jabbar who was present at the ceremony as a special guest.

The four-day BASIS SoftExpo 2018 kicked off on Thursday and will continue till Sunday.
