Parliament gets Tk 3.32b budget for new FY

The Parliament Secretariat Commission on Sunday approved a Tk 3.32 billion budget for parliament to spend on its development and non-development expenditures for the next fiscal year (2018-19), reports UNB.

The approval was given at the 29th meeting of the commission held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

 Of the total budget, Tk 2.98 billion will be spent on non-development sector while Tk 341 million on development sector.

The approved budget is Tk 176 million more or 5.60 per cent higher than the revised budget of the current fiscal.

The meeting also approved the projected budget for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years. It also okayed the revised budget of the outgoing financial year (2017-18).

 Commission members prime minister and leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, finance minister AMA Muhith, law minister Anisul Huq and opposition leader Raushon Ershad were present at the meeting.

Chief whip ASM Firoz attended the meeting on special invitation.

 At the beginning of the meeting, a video documentary was screened on the ongoing development project on parliament library.
